Apocalypse Appreciation Appointment
Take a moment to exult in a classic of eschatological imagery: This hair-raising version of the Commentary on the Apocalypse of Beatus of Liébana. Beatus lived ca. 730-c. 800 CE. This particular manuscript was written by two monks named Munnio and Domenico at Santo Domingo de Silos in Spain in the late 10th century. The illuminations were mostly done by a guy named Petrus. The double-page in the middle is one of the oldest Christian maps of the world surviving today—but that's for an other post. The color palette is climate-change-y, don't you think?
