Arguing activates the memory banks

ELDERLY CHARACTER: I saw Mr. Myers today. He complained about the hedge again.

YOUNGER CHARACTER: Dad, Mr. Myers hasn't been your neighbor for thirteen years. And there's no hedge in the backyard.

ELDERLY CHARACTER: Thanks for disagreeing with me. That helps me remember: Mr. Myers moved away, and we replaced the hedge with a row of hawthorne trees a few springs back. I'm ready to be driven to a doctor's appointment now.

ELDERLY CHARACTER [suspicious]: Who are you? What are you doing in my house?

YOUNGER CHARACTER: Don't you remember? I'm your son.

ELDERLY CHARACTER: You're not my son. He's – he's away at school, and you're nothing like him.

YOUNGER CHARACTER: No, I am your son. Remember all the times you took me fishing?

ELDERLY CHARACTER: Something about the way you keep insisting brings it all back. You must be my son after all. Thanks for repeating your point; that really helps.

ELDERLY CHARACTER: I'm hungry.

YOUNGER CHARACTER: Don't you remember...? We just had lunch.

ELDERLY CHARACTER: That's right. I had the Cobb salad and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for asking if I remembered; I'm ready to do something else now.
